Many recruiting observers believe that Will Lawrence is one of the nation's top high school freshmen and that's not a stretch at all. I watched him today at the Rivals Camp in St. Louis and he held his own against a crowd that was mostly older by two years, including some highly ranked guys. He's smaller than the 2016's, as you'd expect, but he's not as much smaller as you'd think a freshman would be. But it's really everything else that makes him the prospect he is. He's definitely very developmentally advanced when it comes to the finer aspects of the position and when you stand next to him you don't get the impression that size will be a concern.
I spoke with him today and it was a little generic because when you're a high school freshman with 27 offers, you can't really go too in-depth with coaches anywhere yet. But I did ask him about his interest in 'SC and he told me, almost with a laugh, "Oh yeah I'm interested." He then went on to talk about the program's reputation, their offensive line success -- all the things you'd expect him to say.
Tennessee, the biggest program in his home state, has not offered yet and he seemed a bit surprised. I don't know that I would say put off. I do think USC would make the initial cut if he made it now. But that's a long way off.
