The best head coaches identify the up and coming talent and the future stars. Urban Meyer did it with Tom Herman. Patterson did it with Justin Fuentes. Shaw did it with Derek Mason.

Helton is Helton. A pretty mediocre to poor offensive coordinator. This is known. So, now the question is can he be a great CEO? Can he identify and not be threatened by top talent? Clancy ain't coming. Good. The guy won't recruit and is all about the NFL. He's a hired gun. You don't want him as your long term DC in college any more than you want Carl Smith coming back to be your offensive coordinator.

That out of the way, I wanted to put out there for discussion, Dave Aranda, the DC we play in our bowl game. I love his philosophy and he's been successful in the Big 10. However, he hasn't played prolific offenses and missed Michigan and OSU and MSU this year. There are concerns as with any coach, but the guy is a hot commodity for a reason. And most of all, he has an articulable philosophy, something I've yet to hear from our new head coach beyond, we will play power football, which sounds great but means exactly what beyond its generic makeup?

Anyway good read on what Aranda is all about.
