Notes and observations from Saturday's practice ...
USC was in full pads again.
11-on-11:
John Plattenburg is in. Chad Wheeler is at LT. Khaliel Rodgers is at RG.
Connor Spears is targeted on the first play but can't on to a throw downfield toward the sideline. Wasn't an easy one.
Cody Kessler takes a sack. Took too long to get rid of it.
Sack by Jabari Ruffin. That's his first of fall camp. Good sign. He hadn't been even getting but a few reps in these team periods.
Another good sign: Tre Madden got reps in full pads. We hadn't seen that in team periods on Wednesday and Friday morning.
***
Second-team O-line: Nico Falah at LT, Toa Lobendahn is at C and Jordan Austin at RG.
Dom Davis pushes the pile forward. He looked to be falling too quickly earlier in camp.
Max Browne hits De'Quan Hampton. I think Browne lovs how big of a target he is.
Browne goes to his third or fourth read.
Porter Gustin sacks Sam Darnold.
***
1-on-1:
(Coach Steve Sarkisian was not made available to the media after practice, which was planned, but said through a spokesperson that Seymour "banged his knee, nothing serious." Stay tuned.)
7-on-7:
Tyler Petite catches a pass over the middle from Browne. Petite is clearly the best receiver among the contingent at tight end.
Madden goes for a long run up the right sideline, thanks to blocks form Zach Banner and Chris Brown.
Kessler hits Madden short.
Aca'Cedric Ware runs between the tackles for a nice gain.
Adoree' deflects a deep pass to JuJu. Textbook coverage from Adoree', although he probably could have looked to intercept it. That doesn't seem to be a priority to him. (I spoke with DBs coach Keith Heyward about this and other topics. Will have that in They Said It.)
***
Ronald Jones II has a nice run.
Matt Lopes intercepts a pass after it bounces off Cyrus Hobbi's hands.
Neither Ware or RoJo shy away from contact. War is especially good at falling forward.
Osa Masina sacks Ricky Town.
Biggie (legally) forces Caleb Wilson out of bounds. It was a great day for Biggie.
1-on-1 blocking drill (RBs vs. LBs)
7-on-7:
Kessler is spreading it around well.
Ware catches a deep wheel route.
Coverage sack on Kessler.
Browne hits RoJo.
Perfect throw downfield from Browne to George Katrib.
Darreus Rogers picks up a big chunk up the seam.
Browne finds Petite upfield near the sideline.
***
1-on-1:
Field goals:
Matt Boermeester - 32 (good), 37 (no good), 42 (good)
Alex Wood - 32 (good), 37 (good), 42 (good)
11-on-11:
Steven Mitchell Jr. gets behind Langley and Leon McQuay for a TD. (Kessler seemed to make more of an emphasis on going downfield.)
Biggie keeps Christian Tober to a short catch.
Kessler and Darreus can't connect on a deep ball. Miscommunication there somewhere.
Browne hits McNamara up the seam. This was by McNamara's best practice.
John Houston Jr. records a sack.
***
Hampton can't hang on to a pass. He was covered well by Jonathan Lockett.
Greene makes a great falling catch vs. Plattenburg.
Kessler completes back-to-back passes to JuJu.
Ware shows off some shiftiness on a big run.
Browne connects with Hampton, with Adoree' in coverage.
***
Good D from Lockett leads to an incomplete.
Delvon Simmons and Nwosu combine to stop Ware in the backfield.
Biggie records a PBU vs. Whitney after Darnold rolled to his right to keep the play alive.
Biggie records another PBU vs. Katrib.

No final challenge today. Practice lasted 2.5 hours again.
USC's next practice is Sunday at 2:30 and is open to the public.
