Notes and observations from Tuesday's practice ...
USC was in full pads today. (BTW, I don't have as many notes because team periods were shorter, which is common during the season, and I was paying more attention to players nursing injuries.
11-on-11:
Justin Davis spins on a run up the middle and picks up a first down. Given how well the freshmen looked Saturday, you get the feeling Davis will need to perform at a high level quickly to work his back to the top of the depth chart.
Aca'Cedric Ware busts through the line for a nice gain.
Ronald Jones II takes consecutive handoffs as USC is clearly emphasizing the run. He's stuffed on the first one but makes a nice cutback on the second for a big gain.
Ware goes up the left sideline for a long run.
USC exclusively ran the ball during this period and ran well. The O-line had a good push. We've now seen this unit respond well after two shaky scrimmages and a disappointing season opener. The key, of course, is delivering on Saturdays. (I'll have comments from Toa Lobendahn and Bob Connelly in the next They Said It.)

Field goals:
Alex Wood hit from 27, 32 and 37 and missed from 37.
Matt Boermeester hit from 27 and 37 and missed from 32.
Wyatt Schmidt hit from 37.

Scout team:
Tyler Petite makes a shoestring catch.
Isaac Whitney makes a one-handed grab down the sideline and gets both feet in bounds.
Quinton Powell breaks up a long pass to Petite.
Jones gallops his way to a big gain.
Cody Kessler hits Darreus Rogers on a well-placed deep throw over the top.
Tre Madden runs up the middle for a solid gain. JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was selling a different play, sprints down the sideline well after Madden was down. JuJu was particularly intense today.
11-on-11:
JuJu catches a short pass on Kevon Seymour.
Kessler goes back to JuJu and Seymour nearly picks him off. He was right on it.
JuJu catches a screen pass and is stopped near the line of scrimmage. JuJu then ran over to Whitney, standing a few feet away, and shoved him hard in the face with both hands. JuJu was apparently upset over Whitney missing a blocking assignment. I included some reaction to the incident in Quick Hits.
Practice ended minutes later, about two hours after it began.
Several position groups on offense stuck around for extra work and/or coach instruction. The offensive line was the last unit to leave the field.
