Notes and observations from today's practice ...

The team was in shoulder pads and shorts today.

We're seeing fewer and condensed team periods. On Tuesday, we saw the defensive line spend extra time working on 1-on-1 pass rush. Today the line worked on rushing as a team.

Clay Helton is dividing more of his time with different position groups. He was actively involved in special teams periods Tuesday. Today he was coaching up both offensive and defensive linemen. When asked about that, he noted that he is the son of an offensive line coach.

"I just want them to feel the intensity I have and the passion that I have for that group," he said. "For us to win a championship, it's going to be won in the trenches. It was last week. That's our belief here. I think the head coach has to be around those guys and they have to feel your passion for them."

11-on-11:

Cody Kessler throws a sharp pass inside to Deontay Burnett.

Greg Townsend records a sack.

Tre Madden goes up the middle and cuts outside for a big run.

Ronald Jones II catches a ball over the middle.

Lamar Dawson records a sack.

***

Kessler goes deep to JuJu Smith-Schuster but he can't hang on for the touchdown. Jonathan Lockett defended JuJu well on the play and might have tipped it.

Kevon Seymour breaks up a pass. Good D on the play, but he probably should have caught that one.

Scott Felix registers a sack.

Seymour breaks up another pass to conclude practice.

Notes on lineups:

Jalen Greene, De'Quan Hampton and Dominic Davis are all getting more reps.

Connor Spears continued to serve as the first-team tight end.

Chris Hawkins and Leon McQuay took the bulk of the first-team reps in 11-on-11.

Isaiah Langley took some first-team reps opposite Adoree' Jackson.
