Guys, help me remember: since Larry Smith 25 years or so ago, what has happened to them after they were CANNED at USC? Let's start with Smith:
Larry Smith: did nothing, never heard from again;
Robinson II: did nothing, left the business;
Paul Hackett: did nothing, a few obscure positions in the pros, a big, fat nothing;
Pete Caroll: legendary status, goes on to sterling NFL career, including Super Bowl victory;
Lane Kiffen: goes to Alabama as OC, becomes nothing;
Steve Sarkissian: about to be canned, ends up as regional spokesman for ALANON.
My point is the USC administration seems to have a habit of rushing to hire coaches who the entire world knows are frauds. Pete is the one exception and Garret go lucky on that one. Why is this? Why do we continually shoot ourselves in the foot? Why not just take your time, pay through the nose and get a really good, veteran SEC coach who is used to the pressure and performs. We always seem to get trainees...
