Adam Gorney's recent article on the best Power Groups being recruited in the Pac-12, basically slapped SC in the face. Now, I know the recruiting game, so for me, this is May and it is a lifetime until the first week in February. But I do wonder where Gorney's head is at. He used the word "phenomenal" to describe almost all Pac-12 recruiting so far this cycle, until he came to SC.
Addressing the Trojans, Gorney mentioned Carr. Period! word "phenomenal" or even good never made his comment. Recruiting will turn out to be what it is in February, but it seems to me that any assessment of recruiting, on a historical basis, has to take in to account SC's record, even through dragonian sanctions, in Pac-12 and National classes. You don't have to go very far back Adam. Just to last year and the year before.
Oh, there are plenty of hand wringers on SC sites about the lousy recruiting job our staff is doing, and you must be listening. Of course these doomsday prophets are overlooking a couple of things. Don't believe everything you read or what a 17 year old kid says in May. In fact, take it all with a lot of doubt.
IMO, the most important thing I see happening in SC recruiting, that while some wail and weep that SC has no plan and is just throwing offers out across the country, quite a few of the kids that make up the elite prospect class in this country have declared they are coming to Camp at SC. Probably more than I have ever seen. This cannot be trivialized, but evidently it is being ignored.
So, damning SC with faint or no praise in May, not in the country, but in the Pac-12, by a "recruiting expert" seems too much like an agenda to me.
