Most of you know that I have been the most vocal person on here in praising Helton's coaching ability.
I want to reiterate again that I absolutely believe that he doesn't have the resume to be among SC's top three choices, but I also would like to address what I consider to be misconceptions related to the head coaching position.
If at all Clay is considered for an HC position, some of the key criteria will include:
Clay cannot accumulate that requisite long track record of success by the end of this season (and that should eliminate him from contention); there's nothing that he can do about that, but damn has he done a fantastic job in a number of the criteria that I listed above. He has completely revamped the identity of both the offense and defense (in only half a season and without the benefit of a training camp and his own coaching staff). He keeps people motivated and focused when they have every reason not to be. He inspires the team to achieve.
Clay Helton is a good HEAD COACH.

If at all Clay is considered for an HC position, some of the key criteria will include:
- Yes, his won-loss and bowl record;
- The vision and the ability to establish a strong identify for his team;
- The ability to motivate the team to overcome adversity and achieve;
- The organizational skills required to run the football program like a well-oiled machine;
- Commanding respect from the players and assistants;
- Being a good representative of the university;
- Being a good mentor for the student athletes;
- Etc.
