Last night was the first time I watched Mater Dei play this year. They have amazing talent if you go position by position. It's basically unfair in a Highschool setting. With that said, it seems like it would be very difficult to evaluate their talent given their depth doesn't allow other teams to gameplan against one or two players which is typically what occurs when other Highschool teams have an elite player or two.
In watching Amon Ra St. Brown last night you could tell he was the most talented receiver on the team but is he really the best national prospect by a wide margin? He may be but it was just hard to tell. If I were a scout I'd highlight his crisp routes and very good hands. I think his ability to get in and out of breaks was top notch but I'm not sure about his top end speed. He also isn't tall so I don't see him being a guy that just beats you with size. He seemed like a better Stephen Mitchell but if you go back to Highschool I'd imagine Stephen Mitchell was as good as any prospect.
Would love to hear thoughts from our board or the mods.
Thx
