First off, I put none of this on Helton. He inherited a staff that he didn't hire, an offense that he didn't create, and a situation that could not have been worse. So I don't judge Helton at all or even criticize him for our play at Oregon.

This one falls almost entirely on this the offensive line and defensive coaching. Let's start with the o-line, where after a long search, the best Sark could must was Bob Connelly. Look at Connelly's tenure. He has been lackluster for every team he coached. He isn't and never was a good hire, and we all knew it at the time. Our line has not improved, and in fact, it has regressed since Drevno left. Chad Wheeler played one of the worst games I can remember seeing a left tackle ever play at USC. It was awful. Beyond that, the lack of communication is a central theme this year, and it killed us yesterday.

Next, the obvious defensive blunders. We don't need to go into too much detail. What we know is that the defense was at its worst yesterday. The corners had trouble covering in man, and the zone were just totally blown. This shows an absolute lack of communication. You can make excuses all day for this group, but these guys practice every week. And while I can see an occasional mix up, it happened all day. Wilcox and that entire defensive staff has to go. And I have a feeling even if we kept Helton, he would clean house.

Folks, this is not Helton's staff, and he is getting stuck with them, and they are destroying his chances of winning this job. I really prey we beat UCLA this week, get to the championship game, and I think we have a chance against Stanford. But if we don't, it will be on this entire defensive staff and Connelly to answer for their utter failures.
