I'm surprised to see little to no discussion of Brussels on here. I haven't been to Europe in quite some time, but I'd think twice about going anytime soon. I definitely would not want to be in the middle of one of the larger cities. Would you go?
Like Americans, the Brits and the French before them, Belgians are now asking, "Why us?" The standard answer is that some mindless Arabs were "radicalized" on the internet. This is far too simplistic and shows no intellectual creativity. No wonder the "radicalization" theory hasn't been proven true in the 15 years of testing since 9/11. The roots of 'terrorism' go back to colonialism, post-colonialism and modern day madness. The only way to understand and defeat terrorism is to understand the colonial past and the fruit is has born today, from which we all eat in one way or another. You can't understand a terrorist until you at least respect his views.
