I know this is a football site and where your passions lie but if he is on his way out, there were a few positives to his presence. His first year, funds raised went from 225 million to 428 million and the money has kept rolling in ever since. He oversaw and secured necessary funding for the completion of McKay Center, Swimming complex and Coliseum renovations. He has USC in line to make some serious bank for renting out the Coliseum to two professional football teams for the next few years. Of our 20 teams, at least 10 have finished in the top 7 each year he has held his position. Great hires include Andy Enfield for basketball, Cynthia Cooper-Dyke for basketball, Caryl Smith for track and field, Keidane McAlpine for soccer, Anna Collier for beach volleyball. Men's volleyball had been an "also ran" for too long so he just replaced Ferguson for Nygaard. He fired Kiffin quickly and was man enough to recognize he was wrong with Sark and made the move quicker than many thought. He came in under orders to make peace with the NCAA and he did. Flawed, yes. Mistakes, yes but he has owned his mistakes of mis-hires and moved on rather than stubbornly holding on to dead weight that he brought in. At least 13 National Championships, USC just had its most successful Olympic representation ever and I, for one, am more excited about our football team and staff since Pete's departure. He served his purpose, brought us through the darkest sanctions ever, and his successor will be in a good position to move the athletic department forward. And remember, it is entirely possible that the next may be no better as far as football is concerned. I am not pumping sunshine and he needs to go, but in the big picture, the athletic program is better off than when he came.
