Freshman quarterback JT Daniels has cleared the concussion protocol, and coach Clay Helton said he expects him to start Saturday for USC at Oregon State.

Daniels missed his first game last week as redshirt-freshman Jack Sears filled in at QB in the Trojans' 38-35 loss to Arizona State.

"He'll be in no-contact for the week but will be practicing. [We'll] be monitoring him throughout the week, we'll be preparing him and Jack, but things are progressing well for him and he is looking good," Helton said of Daniels on the Pac-12 coaches teleconference Tuesday morning. "We'll keep him out of contact and monitor him, but I have all anticipation of him being ready for the game."

Daniels sustained the concussion at the end of the third quarter the previous week at Utah.

For the season, he's completed 56.9 percent of his passes for 1,629 yards, 8 touchdowns and 7 interceptions through 7 starts.

Sears was 20 of 28 for 235 yards, 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions and a fumbled option pitch in his first collegiate action Saturday. After a slow start, he helped USC rally back from a 17-point deficit to take a brief lead in the third quarter.
