News updates from Tuesday's practice:

Coach Clay Helton said he would likely announce a starting quarterback shortly after the end of spring practice.

(From my vantage point, all signs point to Max Browne getting the nod next week. There does appear to be a small window for the decision to be delayed until fall if Sam Darnold has a huge performance in the spring game and Browne struggles. Some of my peers in the media were confused by Helton's comments on the topic and took them to mean he won't pick a guy this spring. I believe they're reading the wrong tea leaves, especially since Browne continues to take nearly every first-team rep. You can decipher for yourselves in his post-practice interview.)

S Leon McQuay participated in his first Tuesday practice this spring.

Freshman safety CJ Pollard was really active today and seems to be adjusting well to the speed of college football.

S John Plattenburg, CB Jonathan Lockett (concussion) and OL Clayton Johnston (concussion) remained out.

AD Pat Haden attended today's practice and looked like he was doing well.

USC had an extended blitz period today, which was really a challenge for both quarterbacks. More details coming in Footnotes.
