News updates, notes and observations from today's practice ...
Leon McQuay (knee) and Osa Masina (hamstring) took reps with the second team. If they're practicing, they will likely be available Saturday.
Tre Madden and Justin Davis did not appear to get any carries in team periods. As I mentioned yesterday, I don't believe it's a reason for concern. They've been scaled back for weeks, and Davis is coming off a game in which he carried the ball 25 times.
I asked Clay Helton about Madden and I got the impression they are hoping to ride him a bit more than they did vs. UCLA. "He's starting to get even more healthy," Helton said. Madden got off to a fast start vs. Stanford in the first meeting but didn't run the ball in the second half because of an injury.
Adoree' Jackson ran routes with the receivers during individuals but otherwise practiced exclusively with the defense.
There were no changes from Tuesday on the offensive line: Nico Falah and Viane Talamaivao at center, and Khaliel Rodgers was out.
Jonathan Lockett (knee) remained out.
Helton said he has received congratulatory texts from both Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian since earning his promotion.
The victory bell was brought to the practice field near the end of the workout. Several players and Helton rang it.

11-on-11:
Kevon Seymour picks off Cody Kessler. Had to be a blown assignment somewhere because there wasn't a receiver in the neighborhood.
Uchenna Nwosu deflects a pass at the line of scrimmage. Max Browne rolls to his right and makes a sharp pass to Robby Kolanz for a nice pick-up.
Don Hill registers a sack.
Marvell Tell comes up with an interception, which particularly impressed Keith Heyward. (The USC DBs coach later suggested Tell might be the team's best tackling safety.)

Adoree' was the last to leave the field, spending extra time on his techniques. It's probably fair to say he's developed some better practice habits over the past two months.
