News updates from Thursday's closed practice ...
Steve Sarkisian said Kevon Seymour is a game-time decision for Saturday. Seymour exited Thursday's practice still wearing a brace on his knee and looking hobbled. (My guess is he doesn't play.)
Sarkisian said Lamar Dawson has been cleared and will play vs. Stanford. He didn't say whether Dawson or Cameron Smith will start. (I expect Smith to start and both to play a lot.)
Sarkisian said Ykili Ross and John Houston Jr. are on track to redshirt. Ross has only appeared at safety this fall, despite being given a package of offensive plays in the summer. There would still seem to be a chance Ross could play this season because there's less depth at the safety position, but it would likely require an injury. Houston is much less likely to take the field since he's behind Su'a Cravens, Uchenna Nwosu and Quinton Powell at strong-side linebacker.
Sarkisian today spotlighted Soma Vainuku and David Mellstrom for student-athlete awareness week. Vainuku had an internship over the summer with noted developer Rick Caruso. Mellstrom was putting in overtime for his business degree during training camp.
Darreus Rogers stayed after practice with Biggie Marshall to work on the latter's footwork and releases at the line of scrimmage.
