News updates from Wednesday's practice ...

Kevon Seymour did not practice. He was sporting a bigger brace on his knee and continued to look hobbled. I'd almost say he's doubtful for Stanford, although given his experience he could not practice this week and still end up taking the field Saturday. We saw that with Leonard Williams last year.

As I mentioned in Tuesday's R&R, I could see Biggie Marshall starting in Seymour's place, and that's even with Seymour available. Marshall continued to take the majority of first-team reps and Steve Sarkisian lauded his football acumen and performance thus far. He definitely appears to have leapfrogged Jonathan Lockett.

Also, Isaiah Langley remained with the second team. If Seymour doesn't play, Langley likely will.

Lamar Dawson increased his workload and looks on track to play. He was integrated with the first team more today.

Adoree' Jackson spent the majority of the day on defense. He did a little scout-team offense, which suggests he'll play on that side of the ball to some extent. I spoke with Adoree' about his potential role on offense this week and will have more on that in They Said It.

A really interesting comment from Sark today: "We think our depth is our strength." He then intimated that they would platoon less this week and lean more on their better players. This would sound like a contradiction but it's not. He wanted to use the first two games to identify who the frontline players are. USC expects there to be fewer plays in this particular game, necessitating less substitutions. But it's clear that Sark feels like he has more horses than he had a year ago.

Kevin Scott, who will certainly redshirt, spent much of practice on the trainer's table.

As you might have heard, it's Student-Athlete Awareness Week. In today's post-practice presser, Sark lauded the off-field endeavors of Leon McQuay and Robby Kolanz. Some of McQuay's beats were recently featured on the Pac-12 Network and he's developing a relationship with Dr. Dre. Kolanz is a broadcast journalism major who has interned with the sports information department and helped Athletic Director Pat Haden with his College Football Playoff rankings.
