News updates from Wednesday's practice...

Justin Davis, Lamar Dawson, Claude Pelon and Jordan Simmons remained out. Steve Sarkisian said they're all "doubtful" for this Saturday but "hopeful" for next Saturday.

Ykili Ross got some run with the scout team. He is still in a non-contact jersey.

Taylor McNamara returned and was primarily with the first team. It looks like he'll be the starter for the opener.

OL Jordan Austin was on crutches and sporting a boot.

Safeties John Plattenburg and Matt Lopes took some first-team reps. We didn't see as much of Leon McQuay. It's clear they're going to rotate all these guys Saturday.

The second-team D-line featured Kenny Bigelow, Cody Temple and Malik Dorton.

The third team was an all-freshman lineup: Rasheem Green, Noah Jefferson, Jacob Daniel.

Sarkisian said Green has been cleared and that he plans to play him.

He also said Chuma Edoga will play.

Adoree' Jackson practiced on both sides about evenly. He said he expects to play a lot of offense against Arkansas State (in addition to primarily being on defense).

USC has a closed practice Thursday. We'll meet with Sarkisian afterward.
