SC55OU19. I am calling you out. You keep on about sc not being able to recruit the types of o and dl and lb's etc that they get in the southeast. You are flat out wrong. The west may get less in total, but there are still plenty of players that make great college and pro football players from those positions from the the pac 12 states. I posted this around the time of game when there millions of threads going up and I am bringing it up again as you keep going on about this in half your posts.
I respect you as a poster. But I think you are making way to much of you argument about the big boys in the east vs the west.
I looked at the last 3 drafts. That shows a typical team of soph, junior and seniors starting on a team in a given year. This not exact for various reasons, but you get general idea of how many top players are starting on a team in a given year. I included the 13 positions that either block or tackle primarily. The bigger guys on the team. I did not include the skill positions expcet for te which is a mix, but te's do primarily block on most teams. I included OL and TE on offense and DL and LB's on defense. 13 total positions.
Granted not every guy is from the west, but most are. And sc recruits nationally anyway. But a majority of sc's top players in the trenches do come from the pac 12 states and Hawaii. The point is that there are plenty of top guys that we get. And there are many that we have not even offered. Per capita there are not as many great guys out west, but in total, there plenty of players that sc continues to get. The western states(col to ak to ca to hawaii etc) are so large and the overall population is still sizable, so there are tons great players that sc has recruited and will continue to recruit. They just are not being developed by sc.
For sc alone it was 9 out 13 positions had a player who was going to go pro on the roster and most likely starting in the same year.
I counted a total of 56 non skill players drafted from the pac 12 in 2015,16,17. SC generally had about 9 pre nfl guys starting out of 13 non skill/trench positions during 2015. This is in general. I did not take into account injuries and some other factors. But still you can see that sc had a lot of talent in the trenches. In 2016 sc had 3 or 4 players on the ol who would go pro in banner, mama, wheeler and possibly one of the following in edoga, toa, viane, falah etc. The 2016 ol was a pre nfl ol. Carroll took tons of guys in the pac 12 states and sent them to the pros. He recruited well and developed them.
And sc could have recruited more of those 56 that were drafted. Sc did not even offer a lot of them. Of course they would not land all 56 in a 3 years period. But they did land 9 of them to cover 13 positions. But they could certainly get a 5 to 7 more over a 3 year time span so literally every position has a pro starting. By the way, there are some more top players from the west not on this list. Those players went out of the pac 12 to play ball. But then again, we took some players from other regions as well. So it may be a wash.
This is not exact science. This is a general analysis. But I that feel sc can get nfl caliber players at the skill positions and in the trenches. We can get most of them form the west as well. Last year alone we nabbed 11 highly rated non skill guys from the west region to cover 13 positions in the future. If we land another 10 this year that is 20 top players to cover 13 positions. So there is plenty of talent in the west to be had.
