Some perspective from Kedon Slovis' Desert Mountain HS coach David Sedmak, who was watching the game live on TV Saturday when his former QB got thrust into the spotlight.

Sedmak admits that nobody could have expected Slovis to be the starter as a true freshman -- because no one could have guessed that JT Daniels would be lost to injury two quarters into the season -- but he's not surprised at all that Slovis put himself in this position. He shares a relatable anecdote, some often overlooked perspective about Slovis' recruiting stock and this comment:

"Those of us that know Kedon are super excited for him and not surprised. Those people that are Southern California people probably think that Sears and Fink are getting screwed," Sedmak said. "The thing they say about Kedon is why didn't Arizona or Arizona State offer him. Arizona State was going to offer him right after he got offered by USC. They were then going to pull the trigger on him, but he committed right away so that was that. …

"You've got the Helton bashers so anytime he makes a decision that is a little bit against the grain, everybody goes crazy. But again, none of us are surprised that Kedon's in this position."
