Quarterback JT Daniels has already passed the initial stage of the concussion protocol and is expected to play Saturday versus Arizona State, per sources informed of the situation.

Daniels, if he were fully cleared, would get the start for USC. The freshman took a big blow on the final play of the third quarter in the loss at Utah and did not return.

Clay Helton said redshirt freshman Jack Sears, who’s yet to make his college debut, would begin the week preparing as the starter while they await the final word on Daniels.

Matt Fink, who’s been the primary backup all season, has been ruled out because of a rib injury that he suffered while relieving Daniels in the fourth quarter versus Utah.
