If you were surprised to hear Lynn Swann insist Clay Helton and the coaching staff are safe moving forward, count me among you. Even more surprising was two different sources, unaware of my dialogue with Swann, informing me last night and this morning that no major changes are expected to come after the season.
One of the sources indicated this either means Swann actually doesn't have the green light to make a change, perhaps because USC is still deciding on its next president, or he's not interested in the financial commitment that wholesale changes would require, which could be tied to the Coliseum renovation.
Whatever the case, most signs point to USC basically running it back next year. Brace yourself.
