On Monday, USC picked up a commitment from 2017 prospect Javaris Steward but nothing is ever finalized until a letter of intent is signed. Steward proved that much. His commitment to the Trojans is now over per Pomona head coach Keith Richardson.
"Right now his recruitment is opened up still," Richardson said.
Steward made the decision to de-commit from USC just hours after he made his pledge.
"He talked to the coaches and just opened up his recruitment, to see what's out there," Richardson said. "He hasn't had a chance to visit any schools so he decided to open it up."
USC's coaching search is also important to the 220-pound junior.
"That was a factor too, to see what's going on with the coaching staff over there."
