Jackie Jones of Long Beach, Calif. Poly won the defensive back MVP today at the Rivals Camp Five Star Challenge (presented by Under Armour). Jones spent the day making huge plays on both sides of the ball, and usually followed that up by asking Adam Gorney for a five-star ranking. I believe I only remember seeing Jones give up one or two plays all day on defense. He is a very, very good cornerback. And then on offense, well these events are meant for players like him. Jones flashed his speed and made some spectacular plays on offense. He could be very much in the running to become a five-star down the road.
Trevon Sidney of Bishop Amat HS in La Puente, Calif. won the MVP for wide receivers/tight ends. Like Jones, Sidney's speed and shiftiness was the difference. He made big play after big play making people miss. He really impressed in 7-on-7s.
Also worth noting that Lyndell Wilson won the linebacker MVP. He told McKenna Keil earlier this week that he that he wants to take an official visit to USC.
