What I saw last night in relation to USC and the future.

Watching the game last night I saw a few things.

1. I do think USC has FEW players on the current roster who could go to Alabama and start.

2. I believe USC has SOME players in the junior and senior seasons who can go and start at Alabama once they are physically developed.

3. I believe Alabama has a superior coaching system which develops players for college football which in turn markets themselves as a more ready pro prospect but doesn't always turn out. Example: Trent Richardson.

4. I do In fact believe USC and Alabama has similar levels of pure talent on the roster, however for saying that I think it is at specific positions more being skills players such as WR, RB, and QB. I think the most notable position are the OL and DL and quite honestly the LB positions where Alabama is better. A lot of the guys on Alabama look like grown men. However that's not to say when our guys are physically developed that they couldn't line up and start on Bamas team.

5. Because of these reasons I think the west coast outside Stanford has gone to relying more on speed using the spread and lighter linemen to get out to the second level to make those blocks vs blowing back players at the line of scrimmage.

6. Oregon Duck style of football has really hurt west coast teams and has created a culture I thought USC has tried to imitate on offense and combats this style on defense. Which in turn has made us a weaker team. That goes back to better developing players and having a system where a player has to sit a year or so out and develope and wait for the their turn. But now, we all want freshman to come in and play when infact they should sit and develop. I am guilty of this as well.

Who is USC? I know for myself every preseason I think man we still are that Pete Carroll USC when the games would be over at half time and when we were more physical, aggressive and confidant than another team. What I've come to realize is that we are so so far from that. I think players when they come to the school are intrigued by the history of USC. they want to be the class to bring back USC. I don't know who Coach Clay Helton is yet. Maybe he is under prepared or even lacks the experience. Maybe he shouldn't have gotten this job. But USC needs that something. That it factor. USC needs a grown up. An adult. A person of high integrity. And let's be honest Sark and Kiff were not that. They were kids. Let's see what coach Helton can do. Can it really get any worse. To me we haven't seen Clays USC. You can't take over a program mid year and see what that team really is. Let's give him a shot.
