Two sources close to the recruitment of five-star quarterback Matt Corral told us earlier today that the 2018 prospect backed off his commitment to USC. Corral also confirmed with us that he was no longer a Trojan.
But since that time, we've uncovered that Corral did not actually back off his commitment to USC. In fact, he was dropped from USC's recruiting class.
The reason? Members of the program have had concerns about the talented gunslinger for a long time. Most of those concerns were sparked by the incident that resulted in his transfer from Oaks Christian to Long Beach Poly.
Since that time, eyes have been kept on Corral and many concerns were not alleviated. After an incident at a recent football camp, a decision was made on USC's end to move on from Corral.
Thanks to Adam Maya for helping track this down.
