Chuma Edoga vs Ohio State

Powder Springs, GA.

That’s pretty far from Hollywood, Ca.

I have criticised Chuma a number of times. But the dude got the highest PFF rating of all O-Lineman vs Ohio State. It wasn’t even close.

Add up Toa + Andrew + Chris = Chuma PFF score.

Q. What do Toa + Andrew + Chris have in common?
A. California

Let that sink in for awhile.

2018 Clay Helton Excuse Thread

I’m doing the pumpers a favor and starting this one early for them. We’ll surely hear a bunch of these being thrown around when stuff hits the fan next season.

Feel free to add on to this list.

1. Sears and Fink haven’t had any live game reps (whose fault is that?)

2. There aren’t any quality OL/DL in California

3. Yes it’s Helton’s third year, but no 3rd year coach had ever lost a player of Darnold’s caliber

4. The turnovers that Darnold made actually made the defense better

5. Losing Tyson Helton ruined continuity on offense

6. Tee Martin isn’t used to coaching dual threats like Fink/Sears

7. JT Daniels is only a freshman and that should automatically mean 5 losses.

David Letterman's Top 10

Let's get the top 10 reasons we'll suck next year going. Now that Sam has declared early, it should give the Helton supporters plenty of time to get their excuses together. So here we go!

Top 10 Reasons the Trojans will suck next year

1. Breaking in New QB
2. Sanctions
3. Its the players fault for not executing
4. Going through the whole season without showing the full playbook because we don't want to show too much heading into the 2019 season!
5. We need new uniforms

SC55OU19's Myth about Talent in the Trenches out West

SC55OU19. I respect you as a poster. But I think you are making way too much of your argument about the big boys in the east vs the west.

I looked at the last 3 drafts. That shows a typical team of soph, junior and seniors starting on a team in a given year. This not exact for various reasons, but you get general idea of how many top players are starting on a team in a given year. I included the 13 positions that either block or tackle primarily. The bigger guys on the team. I did not include the skill positions expcet for te which is a mix, but te's do primarily block on most teams. I included OL and TE on offense and DL and LB's on defense. 13 total positions.

Granted not every guy is from the west, but most are. And sc recruits nationally anyway. But a majority of sc's top players in the trenches do come from the pac 12 states and Hawaii. The point is that there plenty of top guys that get. and they are many that we have not even offered. Per capita there are not as many great guys out west, but in total there plenty of players that sc continues to get. They just are not being developed.

For sc alone it was 9 out 13 positions had a player who was going to go pro on the roster and most likely starting in the same year.

I counted a total of 56 non skill players drafted from the pac 12 in 2015,16,17. SC generally had about 9 pre nfl guys starting out of 13 non skill/trench positions during 2015. This in general. I did not take into account injuries and some other factors. But still you can see that sc had a lot of talent in the trenches. In 2016 sc had 3 or 4 players on the ol who would go pro in banner, mama, wheeler and possibly edoga, toa, viane, falah etc. The 2016 ol was a pre nfl ol. Carroll took tons of guys in the pac 12 states and sent them to the pros. He recruited well and developed them.

And sc could have recruited more of those 56 that were drafted. Sc did not even offer a lot of them. Of course they would not land all 56 in a 3 years period. But they did land 9 of them to cover 13 positions. But they could certainly get a 5 to 7 more a 3 year time span so literally every position has a pro starting. By the way, there are some more top players from the west not on this list. Those players went out of the pac 12 to play ball. But then again, we took some players from other regions as well. So it may be a wash.

This is not exact science. This is a general analysis. But I that feel sc can get nfl caliber players at the skill positions and in the trenches. We can get most of them form the west as well. Last year alone we nabbed 11 highly rated non skill guys from the west region to cover 13 positions in the future. If we land another 10 this year that is 20 top players to cover 13 positions. So there is plenty of talent in the west to be had.

az 1. They basically only had 1 guy drafted in the last 3 years from the non skill positions.

Rich Rod and Pac 12 have a problem

After rich rodriguez was fired he made some statements that really made me think. And i think maybe a lot of the other pac 12 coaches thought the same thing. Maybe they did not read their head coaching contracts correctly before signing.

Rich rod said that he thought that he was only hired as the OC for az. He never knew until after he was fired that he was hired to be the head coach which included coaching the defense. Although he did remember that his office sent out a paycheck to somebody who was listed as the offensive coordinator. He never understood why because he thought that was his job alone. He figured it was just an accounting error. In fact, he said that he never even knew there was a thing called defense in football.

Obviously I am being over the top with this, but I wish the pac 12 would hire some great defensive minds as head coaches. It is just gets embarrassing when we get pushed around in our conference. And that includes usc. I literally seems like the coaches put no effort into coaching good defense.
