As everyone knows by now, there's a rumor circulating that
JT Daniels will sign with USC in the early signing period and enroll at the school in January, foregoing the final semester of his junior year and also his senior year.
Daniels and his family has told TrojanSports.com and the Orange County Register that the rumor is false. Mater Dei's head football coach, Bruce Rollinson, has said the same thing to our publication and also to the Los Angeles Times. The plan, they all say, is for Daniels to enroll a semester early but not this early.
But the rumors continue.
Another rumor connected to this one is that Daniels is scheduled to play in 2018 US Army All-American Bowl. The Army Bowl is scheduled for January 6 and is reserved for top high school football players at the end of their high school careers.
If Daniels was scheduled to play in that game, he would be the first underclassmen to ever participate and it would provide a great deal of evidence that he could actually be enrolling in college this early.
But Daniels isn't listed on the roster for the 2018 game. So I caught up with John Schmid of All-American Games, the company that runs the Army Bowl, to see when he expects Daniels to play.
"I haven't heard that," Schmid said when asked if Daniels was expected to play in the 2018 game. "We have him on next year's roster."
When asked if all his conversations with the Daniels family have been about the 2019 game and not the 2018 game, Schmid responded with "correct."
