I'm not complaining here but I'm just asking the question to those who understand the game better than I do.
We were down two scores with the ball with under a minute left. At one point we were on the Stanford 20. Knowing we needed a field goal wouldn't one strategy be to attempt a field goal then which would allow us to at least try a Hail Mary if we recovered the onside kick? Instead we threw short passes until there was no time left and tried a basic Hail Mary on the last play which was irrelevant by that point.
My question isn't based on the outcome of this game but just more the general philosophy of the approach in that situation.
