Notes and observations from practice ...
After two days off, USC was in full pads.
11-on-11 (scout)
Steven Mitchell Jr. is wide open down the sideline but Cody Kessler severely underthrows him. It appeared like Kessler was distracted by a few trainers who were also on the field. This was the very first rep, so there might have been some confusion.
Tre Madden breaks off a long run between the tackles.
Justin Davis follows with a similar run. (It was evident that the tailbacks were extra spry after a couple days off.)
Kessler goes back to Mitchell, this time on a deep crossing route, and hits him in the numbers. Strong throw from CK.
Kessler is sacked. I will say Kessler moved in the pocket, he was just surrounded on this one. Kessler seemed to be shuffling his feet more, showing better awareness under pressure.
7-on-7
Kevon Seymour breaks up a pass to Isaac Whitney. Kevon looked better today, but still a ways from 100 percent. Steve Sarkisian noted that tomorrow will be important fro him. How will his knee respond?
There were a ton of checkdowns in this period. Can't say whether that was by design or the result of good D from the secondary.
JuJu Smith-Schuster catches a pass near the sideline and he takes a hard shove from a defensive back. I bet that felt good to him. JuJu loves to get physical in practice.
I noticed Dominic Davis and Aca'Cedric Ware both took more reps than usual here.

11-on-11 (scout)
J. Davis cuts his way to a nice gain. He switches directions really well.
Ronald Jones II takes a carry up the middle for a long run. (This was obviously a point of emphasis today, and it worked well. The team knows it's going to have to better establish the run game.)
Ware powers his way to a big gain.
Adoree' Jackson, who finished practice on offense, abuses a scout team CB while catching a bomb in the middle of the field for a TD. Great throw from Max Browne.
Kessler rolls right and delivers a strong accurate throw. You could argue he's better when he's on the move.
D. Davis catches a swing pass and beats a defensive back to the sideline for a long touchdown. The DB had an angle but Davis has wheels.

And this concludes practice -- only 90 minutes today. USC will be back on the field Sunday afternoon.
