Notes and observations from today's practice ...

There seemed to be a lot better energy today. Offense had a big rebound after what was sort of a sloppy day Monday. The defense also came to play. It was a workout just about everyone could come of the field feeling good about.

11-on-11:

Biggie Marshall breaks up a deep pass down the sideline from Cody Kessler to Jalen Greene.

Cam Smith's tight coverage forces an incompletion to Greene over the middle.

De'Quan Hampton makes a twisting catch near the sideline on Adoree' Jackson.

Quinton Powell breaks up a pass from Max Browne to to Burnett.

***

Greg Townsend sacks Browne.

Biggie deflects a pass from Kessler to Greene and Uchenna Nwosu picks it off. Excellent defensive play.

Adoree' breaks up a pass to Hampton over the middle.

Browne goes deep to Mitchell and Kevon Seymour breaks that up.

***

There were a lot of well-thrown balls in this period. The DBs just made some excellent plays.

7-on-7:

Adoree' breaks up a pass intended for Darreus Rogers to the deep middle.

Hampton makes a leaping catch over Adoree' for a TD.

Aca'Cedric Ware catches a deep wheel route. He caught it out of bounds but it was impressive nonetheless.

Adoree' deflects a pass up the seam to Burnett.

Kessler was the QB for all of the aforementioned reps.

***

Seymour breaks up a deep out to Hampton. Good, strong throw from Kessler. Great play by Kevon.

Justin Davis catches a wheel route and takes it upfield for a big gain. He's improved a lot as a receiver out of the backfield.

Kessler hits a diving Burnett on an inside post. Kessler led him perfectly.

Kessler connects with Steven Mitchell Jr. on a deep out and Mitchell scores. Excellent throw by Kessler. Another example of him throwing to a spot. He was doing a lot of this in the offseason. Integrating that approach to games just seems to go against his nature and prevents him from playing more free. But he is certainly capable of doing these things.

***

Kessler hits Burnett on the sideline.

He then throws an out to Greene, who hauls it in despite tight coverage.

One of Kessler's final reps is a throw to the deep middle to Mitchell, who can't hang on. It was behind him but Mitchell was wide open and he ran past it. One of those plays where Kessler could have made a better throw but Mitchell has to locate it and adjust.

Biggie breaks up a deep pass from Browne.

***

This was one of USC's best practices of the entire fall.
