At least in recent years past, we were chasing down top notch recruits from all over the country. At this point in recruiting if we can get some (not even all) of the top guys in CA I think we'd all settle for that. There is basically no chance we finish with a top 5 class. Which is fine, at the end of the day it's more important to have good coaching and identify the right players, but...

On the coaching front, we have our third questionable hire in a row, and we're either not hearing any names for assistants, or the names we are hearing are basically Dave Aranda + retreads. I'm sorry but the idea of Orgeron part 3 just doesn't get me amped.

In terms of next year's expectations, you'd be lying to yourself if you didn't admit that under .500 is more likely than winning anything of note. The schedule will be one of the hardest in the nation and we'll have new offensive and defensive schemes, not to mention the player turnover.

To be clear, I'd love for Helton to prove all the doubters (myself included for sure) wrong, but based on what we know now you'd basically have to be drowning in the Kool Aid to project out major success over the next season. There's really nothing new to discuss about the reasons we ended up here, but it's just a bummer that this is the situation we're in
