We have had virtually no tackles for losses. We did pretty well limiting other teams gains and keeping them in front of us, but I never saw a LB or DE or DT shoot through the hole to make a tackle. And our DL did just ok on pass rush. They did bull rush pretty well and made the qb throw early in the Idaho game. But I saw very few dominating plays from them. Can they get sacks with a 4 man front? It seems like when we bring 5 we still don't get a sack. Like I said, it does seem like the the past few qb's would either just elude the rush or throw the ball the ball away when there was any rush at all. So that might be a huge factor because we did seem to get a lot of push quickly at times in both those games. More so against idaho. But I still don't see us being a team who can put pressure on Qb's.
We are still having major trouble shedding blocks. I saw that we would partially shed a block and make a tackle after a two yard gain, but I do not see our players dominating defensively. We are very quick to the ball, but we are not blowing up blockers and then blowing up rb's. Two yard gains by Idaho are more like 5 yard gains by the rest of the pac 12. We have been playing against 2 star linemen/te's the last two weeks. What happens when we go against 3 and 4 star OL from the pac 12?
Other concerns. Can the OL really perform at an elite level? We looked really up and down against ark st, but pretty dominant against Idaho. We don't seem to dominate in short yardage situations either. Will the te performance hurt us in any way? I do generally like the play calling with a few exceptions. We are probably pretty hard to defend as we are really spreading the ball around. We do not seem one dimensional, but I would like to see us dominate at the the point of attack on both sides of the ball.
