Sorry for the overly dramatic. Wanted to analyze the Brian Kelly era dominance over USC.
2010 - ND draws QB Mitch Mustain in his 1st ever start in the rain and still would have lost if USC does not drop a TD pass late in the 4th.They barely win.
2011 - a USC squad with a regular head coach and starting QB go into South Bend and smoke ND even with being crippled by NCAA sanctions
2012 - a ND team comes to L.A. rated the #1 team in the nation, undefeated. And barely beats a USC team once again led by a backup freshman QB in his first start ever, Max Wittek. A team even further crippled by NCAA sanctions.
2013- USC goes to SB a few days after firing its HC. Led by an interim HC with zero time to prepare, ND barely eeks out a win while being at home with 80,000 cheering them on.
2014 -USC, once again with a regular HC and starting QB, despite being even more crippled by NCAA sanctions at almost half the players that ND fields, blows out the fighting Irish.
2015 - USC once again with an interim HC with just a few days to prepare, and after maybe the 2 worst weeks in USC football history, has to take its squad to SB in front of 80,000 hostiles. And not yet at full strength due to NCAA sanctions. Despite all these advantages ND still has to battle back in the 4th to retake the lead and pull out a win.
So, WHERE ARE ALL THE GREAT ND SIGNATURE WINS OVER USC THE LAST 5 YRS? Could they even have won one of these we lost if we had either a head coach or starting QB? In the two we won they had both their HC and regular QB. I did not factor in injuries as we have had as many if not more than them over this time and they were playing with 85 every time, not even close to our reduced numbers. If not for the NCAA one can make an argument we would have beaten them the 3X we lost despite all the the other handicaps.
