Here are the transcripts from the Cleveland Browns after selecting both Randall Telfer and Hayes Pullard on the final day of the NFL Draft.
TELFER
On his strengths and what he can bring to the Browns:
“Being a well-rounded tight end and bringing a physicality to the table. I think that’s one thing I can definitely bring to the Browns. I’m a very physical run blocker, a very physical blocker in general. It’s one of my biggest strong suits and one of my biggest assets.
On what he can tell the media about his teammate LB Hayes Pullard, who was just drafted by the Browns:
“Hayes is one of the hardest working, hardest hitting Trojans I’ve ever known. He’s a great guy, high-character guy, a big-time leader. It’s hard to say anything bad about Pullard.”
On his injury, if it’s lingering and if he’s ready to play now:
“I had my (foot) procedure in late February. Right now, I’m just working hard to get back.”
On winning awards and being a team leader:
“It’s something that Greg Olsen and Jordan Cameron, who I know you’re familiar with, taught me as a young guy when I came to USC so that always inspired me while I was here, and I’ll always be a leader. I’m very grateful that my team saw that with me. It’s something that I’ll always take with me throughout life and continue to Cleveland.”
On how well he knows Cameron and how Telfer feels about stepping in where Cameron left:
“It’s kind of a similar situation to when he left at USC. I started playing right after he left. I have a really good relationship with him, and he’s a good friend of mine. He taught me a lot about the game, a lot about how to play. I’m proud of him and everything that he’s done this far. It feels good to kind of take over where he left off.”
On whether he will be participating in rookie camp this coming week:
“It’s uncertain right now”
PULLARD
On how he describes the way he plays as an inside linebacker:
“I lead by example. I can go out there and cover in space, tackle in space, all of the above.”
On whether or not he’s played in a 3-4 defense at USC:
“Yes, sir. I played in a 4-3, a 3-4 and a 5-2.”
On if he’s heard from the Browns in regard to where the team wants him to play:
“No, not yet. I’m just happy to be a part of the Dawg Pound and ready to get out there as soon as possible.”
On being able to contribute right away on special teams or potentially get defensive snaps:
“It doesn’t matter. I know I’m going to start out on special teams play and creating my role, impact and definitely getting on the field this year.”
On TE Randall Telfer:
“Randall is the team warrior for USC. He’s probably one of the toughest guys there are. I know it’s a pleasure to play with him once again, Trojans going all the way to Cleveland together. It’s going to be a great opportunity for him to show what he wasn’t able to show at USC.”
On the importance of being a captain for two seasons:
“It definitely was an awesome experience being able to be a two-year captain with all my teammates and the coaches and just be able to carry that leadership mentality throughout the whole season. It was just awesome. You just want to continue to motivate that and field that as you gather more guys when you come back.”
On what Pullard meant when he said his teammate Telfer wasn’t able to show what he could do at USC:
“We just had weapons everywhere. We definitely were throwing it to him, but we couldn’t throw it to him as much to get him his yards because we had Buck Allen, Robert Woods and Marquise Lee. When they were there, we couldn’t feature just a tight end because we had dual-threats all across the board. He showed how he got his number called. I believe Cleveland will continue their plan. That’s why he was drafted to Cleveland.”
On what he knows about LB Karlos Dansby:
“My mother was just telling me about him, and I want to go in there, learn as much as I can and be a sponge.”
On who was telling Pullard about Dansby:
“My mom, my agent and a couple of friends.”
On if he knows much about Head Coach Mike Pettine and the kind of tough defense he runs:
“Definitely, that’s why I’m so excited to be part of the Dawg Pound defense. They’re physical, they’re quick, they’re fast and they have that passion to play every week. They are there to show up for their fans and play for their fans. That’s something we cherished at USC and I’m looking forward to bring that over to the NFL.”
