News from Sunday night's practice...

Justin Davis was held out of team drills tonight (hamstring). He didn't carry too big of a load Saturday either.

John Plattenburg went down in the early part of practice and did not return. Sark said he suffered a hip pointer.

Viane Talamaivao was limited by a hamstring tonight.

Rasheem Green, who's been working his way back from a knee injury suffered in his senior season at Serra, has been limited to light individual work the past two days. Sark said he's not ready for live activity and that it would probably be a close-call for him to be ready to play in the opener. He didn't walk around the field particularly well.

The blueshirts, who technically can be placed on scholarship after the first practice, have still not been announced. Sark said they all have to sign grant aids and is waiting for all of them to do it before he announces them. Don't think it's anything to be concerned about; sounds more like a formality.

Sark acknowledged that Ricky Town improved his arm strength and delivery over the offseason.

He said he's been impressed with Sam Darnold after two days. Sark likes his arm strength, athleticism and demeanor. "He doesn't get rattled," he said, noting that he moves on to the next play.

Sark was asked about the leadership on the defense and said he felt like it's not as individualized this year. He feels like more players are accountable. "I don't know if we always played that way a year ago."

He said the incoming freshman on defense will remain on that side of the ball for a while to get acclimated there before he potentially gives them a look on the other side of the ball. A year ago Adoree' Jackson was used on both sides almost from Day 1. It's evident that Sark wants to ensure that these guys have a better handle on things before he puts more on their plate. Jackson, remember, wasn't used in the starting lineup until Game 5.

Commits in attendance included: CJ Pollard, Trevon Sidney, Michael Pittman and Liam Jimmons.

Still no Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick.

We mentioned that USC was working with 105 players. Sark had also said there are two others on the roster who are out with injuries. We knew one was Ajene Harris. The other one is walk-on Ryan Dillard, who's nursing a foot injury from spring that required surgery.

Practice is at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. It's open to the public. Team will be in shoulder pads.
