The team was in shells and shorts today. Practice lasted about two and a half hours. Coach Clay Helton said Thursday will be in full pads and Saturday at the Coliseum will involve scrimmaging.

LB Osa Masina (hamstring), S John Plattenburg, TE Tyler Petite, WR Michael Pittman and DT Noah Jefferson did not practice. Don Hill and Scott Felix remained out.

Helton said Pittman was experiencing a lot of soreness in his collarbone, which he broke in early January. An MRI came back negative. Jefferson (sore back) is having an MRI on Wednesday. Helton is hoping he will return next week and noted that Jefferson performed well in Week 1.

(Helton didn't specify why the other players were out. I would have asked but was talking to Tyson Helton.)

Several recruits were in attendance, including: 2017 ATH Greg Johnson (Los Angeles Hawkins), 2018 LB Merlin Robertson (Gardena Serra), 2017 WR Joseph Lewis (Los Angeles Hawkins), 2018 WR Jalen Hall (Los Angeles Hawkins), 2017 OL Wyatt Davis (Bellflower St. John Bosco), 2017 TE Moses Robinson-Carr (Lancaster Antelope Valley).

Zach Banner got some first-team reps at left tackle but primarily worked at right tackle.

Freshman CJ Pollard continued to take reps at cornerback.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, Aca'Cedric Ware, Dom Davis and Isaac Whitney fielded kickoffs.

Steven Mitchell Jr. and Deontay Burnett fielded punts.

Matt Boermeester made 6 of 10 field goals.

We'll have more details from this practice in Footnotes. Also, we spoke with Max Browne, Sam Darnold, Tyler Petite, Banner, QB coach Tyson Helton and TE/ST coach John Baxter for upcoming editions of They Said It.
