News updates from today's practice ...
USC was in shells and shorts today.
Tre Madden didn't practice again. Clay Helton said Madden has a sore knee from the Washington game and is being held out for preventative measures.
Steven Mitchell Jr. remained out. Helton said he has not shown any progression and intimated he'll likely miss the Notre Dame game.
Darreus Rogers (hamstring) was a light participant and will be monitored the next couple days before a decision is made on his status.
Isaac Whitney hurt his clavicle in practice and was unable to finish. Helton said it is sore but he is hopeful he'll play Saturday.
TE Connor Spears has a nagging knee and is day to day.
De'Quan Hampton has seen his reps increase in wake of the coaching change.
Ykili Ross continues to practice without a scout team jersey. (Hoping to get an answer on why tomorrow.)
Helton spent significant practice time with the defense. He noted afterward that he want the entire team to feel him. "I think as a head coach the whole team has to feel you at every position," he said. "They got to know you care, they got to know you want their best interest at heart and they got to feel your passion."
Pat Haden and Max Nikias observed a portion of practice from the sidelines.
