First off, let's state the obvious: Wilcox needs to go, and he has proven nothing at any college where he has coached.
Sark's biggest mistake when he was hired was firing Clancy Pendergrast and bringing Wilcox. I never understood the move when he made it, and ever big game that we play further confirms what a disaster this move was. He fired a guy that took a bottom feeding defense and made it the #1 defense in the PAC 12 in 1 year, with the same damn roster.
But Sark wanted his guy. And now, Sark really has tied his future to Wilcox. This is often a typical problem for college coaches. They love retaining their own staff. In a certain sense, I get the obvious decision to be loyal to coaches you feel are loyal to you. However, I do not get not hiring the best guy for the job. I just never understand this way of being. How long of a leash does Wilcox get? My guess is that he gets this entire season, but that means dumping a few more games because of a bad defense, and Sark will be on the hot seat. He tied his future to Wilcox's ability. Bad move.
