Now that the news is out and the meltdown in full swing, I was wondering what posters (and Rivals staff) thought was truly the reason Helton was retained.
I know the temptation will be to express anger and/or allege incompetence, but I would point out the USC BOT and Administration have successfully taken on the challenges of significantly improving the academic quality of the university in the last 10-20 years. That would suggest the university leadership has, in fact, been able to do some good things, despite some obvious stumbles.
So, why do you think Helton was retained apparently without even interviewing other candidates? What was the motivation at the BOT and Administration level (assuming that is where the decision was actually made)?
