Redshirt freshman linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu will likely be held out for the remainder of spring practice with what is being described as soreness and discomfort in his left foot, sources say. The move is proactive for a player with high upside but currently not feeling confident in how his foot is responding to taking the field.

With the season still five months out, I’m told the staff doesn’t want to push him now and the hope is that some time off will prevent him from re-injury.

Tuliaupupu, of course, initially injured the foot late in his senior year of high school and underwent surgery, sidelining him for all of 2018. The inside linebacker had a productive first week of spring but has not participated in the past four practices. His position is one of the deeper areas of the team but is another unfortunate blow to a defense that was already trying to overcome notable senior departures and now has been hamstrung by injuries this offseason.

Tuliaupupu was working at middle linebacker this spring, along with John Houston and Jordan Iosefa.
