The Lazarus-like resurrection of the Usc Air Raid? Worrisome IMO.

So we are going to hire 33 year old North Texas OC who may or may not actually call the plays there?

This is probably the worst case scenario post-Kingsbury for these reasons:

1) Reported on TOS that Harrell is asking for Kingsbury money and assurances. That’s bad news for usc because he’s not a former head coach who was already lauded as a great offensive mind. No NFL team is looking to poach this 33 year old that may or may not have called pays at North Texas. But because Swann and Helton are over a barrel they are gonna overpay and tie us to a guy that’s only similarity to KK is they run the same offense.

2) Harrell is not Kingsbury. He may run the offense but he’s not the same as playcaller if he even calls plays. He came recommended by KK but that’s doesn’t guarantee anything. So let’s say he comes in runs the Air Raid and it isn’t successful. Not because of the scheme but because he’s not KK or Mike Leach etc. Now the old grumblers at USC get back to saying “see these gimmick offenses don’t work we need a run first fullback lead offense.” And usc goes back to offense in a phonebooth.

I posit the best case scenario is Harrell doesn’t come we get Fisch or Drevno at OC. Fail and fire. And start over in 2020.
