There was another problem people don't seem to think about. It's December. We are playing for the Pac12 Championship next Saturday. Did anyone think that was going to happen when we were 3-3? You can't hire another Coach with that on the line. Talk about disruption!
There are a ton of openings out there and most will likely be filled by weeks end. And, then what happens if we beat the Trees? (which I think we will). Do you hire then? You think it's wise to tell the Team that their Coach is not good enough even though we are heading to the Rose Bowl?!
Haden was in a tight spot, and Helton put him there, and not by design, but by good coaching. He motivates, he makes very good in-game adjustments. and he controls his assistants (example- Wilcox suddenly turning his D into a tough, hard nose group. That was all Helton). No, Haden had to pull the trigger. I am sure he has his fingers crossed, like all of us, but like I have said before, Helton plays to win, not to lose like our last two HC's. That alone gives me hope. Plus, the fact we are Pac 12 South Champs, something that nobody thought possible, and that was all Helton.
So let's just get a grip, and let this play out. There are a lot of positives here. It's time to support the Team and our New Head Coach, and focus on beating Stanford. You guys can whine all you want afterwards but right now we have something that could be very special. Embrace it!!!. Be Trojan Fans!
