Thoughts on Pendergast and Defensive Schemes

although I've been very critical of the 2 down lineman defensive sets in nickle that Pendergast has run I think it's only fair to note that it's worked pretty damn well against spread offenses. Given the expansion of the spread in college football it makes sense to move that direction. However, with Stanford being in our conference and the need to compete with SEC teams to win Nattys I don't think it gets us there.

Now I know it's difficult to have two distinct base defenses given practice times but with the depth we're building I think we could pull it off, especially 2 years down the road.

I think it'd be great if we could have a traditional 4-3 with the ability to bring a safety into the box versus run heavy teams. Get bigger defensive linemen in as well.

You guys think we could pull it off or is that request unreasonable?
