First let me say that no body should be happy to see anyone go down, get back up, then go down again like Pat Haden did. I've been extremely vocal about Sark and especially Haden, but seeing him go down like that makes you remember that he's a human, that was scary and I'm sure his family must have really been shaken. I hope Pat recovers.
However, there are 2 things, now 3 things going on at SC, and only 1 of them should be our concern as fans of the football program. The first two are Sark's, and now Pat's health issues. These are private matters and we wish them both the best. The final concern is the performance and direction of the football program.
It has become obvious that this program him moving at a fast pace in the wrong direction. Pat took control of the program and has made the decisions that have put us on a course with as much promise as the Titanic's!
I feel bad for Helton because he essentially IS NOT getting a fair audition. When Coach O took over the problem was only Lane himself, the other coaches were great. Coach O merely had to let his coaches do their thing and the results were obvious, we saw immediate improvement in the fundamentals and approach to the game.
Helton has nothing to work with, he is stuck with Sark's staff of never beens that don't know what they are doing. There will be no run for Helton because he has to work with the coaches that put us on this course the first place, they are incompetent. I recently started a thread about how if I was Helton, I'd remove Wilcox as DC. Some thought you can't be done in the middle of a season. What is the point of moving forward in a direction that we know leads to failure? Why not make a switch, take a week or two to transition but then show that improvement that might get you the gig? What can you possibly show to get you hired when you move forward with the same failed offensive game plan, the same failed defensive scheme, using the same players in the same failed manner? That is insane...............there is no hope of change, that shows you bring nothing to the table!
Well that is what Helton did last night and we game up 41 points (could have been over 50), a disgusting amount of yards etc. I've already seen enough of Helton to know he is not the right guy, he again abandoned the run....................................he is done. It that simple. Pat has to go as well, he is simply too nice and avoids conflict. HE has shown that by choosing:
Not to take on the NCAA
Not fire Kiffin face to face
Not take on the NCAA once all the McNair information vindicating SC came out
Not say no to the Pac 12 and get SC a better deal
Not have the face to face meeting with Coah O
Not do a coaching search so as to not face criticism when he hired his had picked guy Sark
Not take any action in handling Sark
Avoiding the press regarding the Sark mess
etc. It goes on and on and on. He is a weak leader and SC is weak because of him.
Nothing personal, I want SC football to prosper, we can not do that with our current AD and coaching staff. Time to make the tough dispassionate decisions. Time to move on and get some real pros in here to LEAD us out of the mess we're in, not avoid it and hope the issues go away on their own.
