The Big Ten Conference announced their Players of the Week following games that took place from Monday, Jan. 6, through Sunday, Jan. 12. Following USC Men's Basketball's games against Indiana and No. 13 Illinois, Wesley Yates III secured Freshman of the Week honors.
Yates had a great week for the Trojans as the team went 1-1, defeating No. 13 Illinois and losing to Indiana. His best performance of the week came against the Hoosiers as he led USC with 18 points while also dishing out three assists. Yates also shot 100 percent from the free throw line against Indiana. Once the team made it to Illinois, he also was a threat. He went 7-for-8 from the field to register 15 points. Overall, Yates averaged 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting at 63.2 percent from the field.
This is the first weekly award for Yates in his career and the first for the Trojans this season. Fans can catch Yates and the rest of the Trojans tomorrow, Jan. 14, as they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes inside of Galen Center.
