Came up on a replay of the playoff game between Oaks Christian and Bishop Amat, purely by accident, and even caught it at the beginning. Let me preface by saying the Amat's lines just overpowered OC, and that was the ball game.
But it was fun to watch Sidney, Vaughns, Corral and Pittman in the same game, and from the standpoint of the fact that they are now Trojans. I am not going to go play by play or micro-analyze each of our kids, but give you some impressions.
First and foremost, I have to begin with Rivals and Pittman. I challenge Farrell and any of his lackey's in the East to give us one receiver in this latest class that actually should rank above Pittman. In this game, Pittman only caught 5 TD's for over 300 yds, and that does not include the passes he caught for lst downs. Not only does Pittman have great hands and anticipation, but his legs and speed just eat up yards. He even had a kick-off return for a TD called back on a spurious call. I can't say enough about this kid but I have a lot to say about Rivals. Either they ignored their Western reps or everyone there is in a coma.
Vaughns is a football player. I had forgotten that this kid is a CB to be reckoned with. He did as good a job as one can do on Pittman when they matched up. Most of the time though, Pittman took #8, a Ucla commit, behind the woodshed for a good spanking. Vaughns also a very tricky, hard to bring down guy with the ball in his hands. Reminds me of Ajax in that regard. And we know how hard he is to defend on the pass.
Sidney didn't have a lot to do, but he is an athlete, and he made a TD catch while sliding on his backside.
I had to keep reminding myself that Corral was a Sophomore out there. A real athlete. Not only a strong arm that allows him to throw well across his body, and/or on the run, but escapes under pressure, and he sure was under pressure, because his line was being stomped in to the ground. On one play, he even played lead blocker for the RB and layed the wood on a Safety. He won't have Pittman as a Junior QB so it will be very interesting to watch, but Corral has all of the tools, and amazing composure for his age.
