Get after Bob Stoops Now!

I’ve been one of the biggest pumpers.

I supported Kiffen, until I sat at ASU and thought, it’s time for this guy to go. The team had quit, he lost them.

I supported Sark, said he was haven a drunken time and would refocus himself to better wins. Many of you reminded me he had a serious problem and had to go. Then I heard of the practice incident and said I’m wrong, he’s got to go!

Now Helton, he’s been a great family guy, the kids love him. He’s a wholesome man with passion....

Then I watched the Texas game, the kids quit. Wazzu, kids fought for every inch. At times giving up 15 yards. No discipline! And he looked lost. He lost 5 star kids, because he is too nice. Kids that have been told they are premier athletes and will earn millions. They believed it, and he did nothing to tell them straight. He’s losing his kids, and we’re losing games.

Helton flat out gets out coached. 4th and 1 and they call a pass play. Win it and big rewards, lose it, except responsiblity.

And all he can do is put on his “mean hat!”

Too late, we deserve someone that can drive 5 star kids into finishing. Or if they wash out, cut them.

I’ve coached, blame was always mine, I cut my friends, people I liked. Cause the team deserved the best. My friends weren’t always that. I lived with it, but I meant it!

Bob Stoops has a resume and his brothers can coach... they’re available too! Family First!

Fight On!

Saw on TOS

That Swann has voiced his displeasure with CH. Out of respect to this site I’m wont post the quote unless I get permission. I’m not saying this is true but it’s interesting to say the least.

I wonder if this has something to do with the more physical practices this week?

Recruiting 2020 slot receiver Isaac Jernagin says USC is No. 1 for him right now

Isaac Jernigan, a 3-star WR in the 2020 recruiting class, is receiving a lot of Pac-12 interest, but he calls USC his "dream school" and says the Trojans are No. 1 on his list right now.

He'll be at the game Saturday -- his second game in the Coliseum this season.

Stephen Hawking's final paper was just published by his colleagues in the pre-print journal arXiv. The team had completed the research a few days before Hawking's death in March.

It was the third in a series of papers that dealt with a concept Hawking spent decades pondering: the black hole information paradox. Here's how it goes:

Black holes are extremely dense, time-space-warping objects that can form when stars collide or giant stars collapse in on themselves. Classical physics suggests that nothing could escape a black hole, even light. But in the 1970s, Hawking proposed that black holes might have a temperature and could slowly leak out quantum particles. This "Hawking radiation" effect means that, eventually, the black hole will evaporate, leaving behind a vacuum that will look the same for each evaporated black hole, no matter what it ate during its lifetime. [The Universe: Big Bang to Now in 10 Easy Steps]

This idea posed a problem: During its lifetime, the black hole swallowed a lot of information in the form of celestial objects, but where did that information go? The laws of physics dictate that no information should be lost: If information existed in the past, we should be able to recover it. Hence, the paradox.

In 2016, Hawking and his team proposed that black holes might have "soft hairs" made up of photons (light particles), or gravitons (hypothetical particles of gravity) that store at least some of this information, Live Science previously reported. These soft hairs surround the black hole's "event horizon," — a boundary beyond which nothing, not even light, can escape.

In the new paper, Hawking and his team found a mechanism — which relies on as-yet-unproven assumptions — for counting the amount of information that soft hairs can carry. "It agreed with the famous formula now inscribed on Stephen's headstone," senior author Andrew Strominger told Live Science in an email. The formula he is referring to is known as "Hawking's equation," and it describes how black holes emit Hawking radiation.

When a black hole swallows an object, its temperature should change, which means its entropy — or the disorder of its particles — must also change (higher temperatures mean particles move around more rapidly, which means more disorder). In the new study, Hawking and his colleagues showed that "soft hair" can indeed record the entropy of a black hole, according to The Guardian.

Another one of Hawking's colleagues, Malcolm Perry, a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Cambridge, told The Guardian that the late physicist "knew the final result" of the work before he died and that when Perry explained it to him a few days prior, "he simply produced an enormous smile."

There is still much unknown about how these soft hairs store information and whether they store all or only some of the information gobbled up by black holes.

"This is excellent progress, but we have much work yet to do," Strominger said.

Football Cam Smith 'about 50-50 at best' for Colorado game with hamstring injury

Clay Helton was considerably less optimistic Thursday after practice about linebacker Cam Smith's availability this weekend.

Smith strained his hamstring in practice this week and is looking questionable for the Colorado game.

That and the rest of the injury updates here:

Football USC needs Isaiah Langley's best game this week vs. Colorado

While Colorado moves breakout star WR Laviska Shenault all around the field and USC does not really move its cornerbacks, I have to assume the Buffaloes took note of how Washington State so effectively attacked the Trojans' left cornerback spot a few weeks ago.

For that reason, I wanted Isaiah Langley's thoughts on the matchup, how challenged he felt coming off that Washington State game and what he feels he needs to prove.

Here's what I got ...

Game Day Logistics Help

I haven't been to a game in 2-3 years and was just wondering if anyone had any advice on getting from campus tailgate to non-student entrances at the coli, esp given all the construction. I'm in section 25 for reference.

I'm assuming the rose garden and science center cut-through is no longer available?

thanks in advance, beat the buffs!

Football Wednesday Footnotes: A new injury to monitor, special prep for USC defense

The big news Wednesday was seeing linebacker Cam Smith walk off the field with his right hamstring wrapped in ice and change into casual clothes for the rest of practice.

Clay Helton addressed the injury and his confidence in USC's inside linebackers if Smith is limited Saturday vs. Colorado.

Some info on Colorado…

Colorado is 5-0 and USC is 3-2. Should be easy to pick UC. But that would likely be fool's gold. Colorado SOS is 94th toughest. USC SOS is 7th Toughest. The cumulative W-L for Colorado's opponents is 6-18. The W-L for USC opponents is 19-10. USC had been on the road for 3 of their 5 games. Colorado has been at home for 3 in Boulder, and in the far corner of Denver some 50 miles away for a 4th. The lone true road game was at Nebraska (0-5) where they won 33-28. Hmmm…..

Colorado returned 4 starters on offense and 6 on defense from 2017. They lost 3 starting OL and a good RB in Phillip Lindsay (1507 yards) . And they lost 4 of their top 6 WRs.. One of those O starters is a very good QB Seven Montez. who topped the Wildcats in passing, and was #2 in rushing last year. He is passing very well (284 ypg, 11 TDs-2 Int. at 75% competitions). They do have a good replacement runner in T McMillan (528 yards-6.3 ypc-4TDs). The receiving corps depends heavily on L Shenualt, Jr.leading at 51 receptions for 708 ypg with 6 TDs. There is a pretty big drop off after that (RD Nixon with 23 catches for 290 yards and 1 TD). On defense they brought back their top 3 tacklers and lost their next 4 top tacklers.

Colorado: They beat CSU (Now 2-4) at Denver 45-13. Won at Nebraska (now 0-5) by 33-28. They beat 1-aa New Hampshire (1-4) at home by 45-14. They beat UCLA (now 0-5) at home 38-16 . They beat Arizona State (now 3-3) at home 28-21. Overall they average 37 ppg and give up 18. But against 'better' competition (Nebraska? and ASU) they averaged 30 ppg and gave up 25 ppg.

The Colorado offense has averaged 197 ypg run and 293 ypg pass, Their numbers are skewed by their competition, so it’s a little tough to gauge. They are about the same as USC on 3rd down conversions (about average). On defense they gave up 201 yards pass and 154 yards run. (about average). .They are about the same on both sides of the ball in sacks as USC.. Turnover margin is slightly better than USC.

On special teams their punting is better, but elsewhere USC has the better return results and FG kicking (UC is 4-7 on 30 plus attempts) .

Forecast: SC beat UC 38-24 last year in Boulder ( Montez 27-49-376, 12-40 yds run). USC pretty much bottled up the run game. Expect something similar this year. They beat UC 21-17 at the Coliseum when UC won the PAC12 South. Overall USC is 12-0, and is 7-0 with both teams in the PAC12. USC is undefeated at the Coliseum under HC Helton. Colorado is stepping up Iin competition this year for the first time, and its in but their second away game.. My Forecast: USC 45 Colorado 24.

Football Tuesday Footnotes: A bye week of 'brutal self-evaluation'

Here's the news from Tuesday's practice:

LB Cam Smith, LB John Houston (stinger), QB JT Daniels and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (shoulder) were full participants. (Each had been limited to some degree during the bye week.)

Daniels mostly abstained from throwing last week. Helton said he's on a pitch count because he's throwing more this year than he ever has before. He's continued to work on his deep balls. Helton lauded his back shoulder throws -- "he's about as good as I've seen with it" -- but isn't as sharp when trying to drop it in the bucket over the top of the defense.

Daniels tried one of these today to Trevon Sidney and sure enough, it was batted away by walk-on safety Jordan McMillan. Daniels also fumbled when nickel back Dominic Davis came free and knocked his arm down on a blindside blitz.

St. Brown looked very healthy and beat Chase Williams for a great jump-ball catch on a toss from Daniels. Matt Fink tried to go downfield to ASB but was picked off by Isaiah Langley.

LB Porter Gustin (ankle) and DL Malik Dorton (ankle) were limited.

DL Jay Tufele was in a car accident last week and is in the concussion protocol. He'll be monitored throughout the week to determine when he's available.

S Talanoa Hufanga is on the mend from a quad injury.

LB Levi Jones remained out because of illness.

LB Raymond Scott is out after having surgery on his finger. He's expected to return soon.

OTs Clayton Bradley (back) and Bernard Schirmer (neck) and QB Jack Sears did not practice.

Helton briefly addressed the Bubba Bolden leaving USC in his opening statement following practice:

"I wish him nothing but the best," Helton said. "Good player, good kid, and hopefully a very bright future for him. I know it will be."

Helton said he was not authorized to comment beyond that and did not answer when asked if he was blindsided by his indefinite suspension the week of the opener.

I've been told that's exactly what happened -- as far as Helton knew, Bolden was not facing any discipline for the incident Bolden alluded to in his Instagram post. Thus, Bolden was in line to start to begin the season. However, sources have told me there had been other transgressions involving the former USC safety. Perhaps his punishment was the culmination of repeated poor behavior.

***
Helton said he spent the bye week watching a lot of football, namely USC and Colorado. He was asked (by Ryan) for his main takeaway after self-scouting over the past week and he went into detail about what was learned.

Here's a summary:
  • Defensively, he lamented the lack of takeaways and stressed how important they are in creating separation in games.
  • Offensively, the team is typically starting fast but isn't consistent. He noted the need for a killer instinct.
  • Special teams, he's generally pleased but feels there are big lapses.
  • He told the coordinators to call more aggressive games and without fear -- "play to win."
  • He told he position coaches to be very critical of fundamentals and techniques.
  • He told the players there needs to be accountability for decision-making.
"Just a brutally honest self-evaluation of what I think we need to do as an entire team," he said.

Tee Martin weighed in as well:

"It was really good to be able to self-scout with a new quarterback and just seeing what we are, or at least what's on tape. Teams can't prepare for what they don't see. It was good to see some things that have been called that's on tape that teams are preparing for, and some things that we've practiced that haven't been called yet that's good stuff. I got some wrinkles and look forward to getting it called on Saturdays."

We have video interviews with Martin, Daniels, WR Tyler Vaughns and TE Josh Falo.
