Johnson slams Biden’s ‘senior moment’ on Israel aid

“I hope — I believe he’s off-script,” the speaker said about the decision to withhold weapons.

Betrayal
Speaker Mike Johnson said Wednesday he felt betrayed by President Joe Biden after learning that he is willing to withhold offensive weapons to Israel and accused the president of reneging on the deal they made to pass aid to Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan last month.

Johnson also said he hoped that Biden’s threat to cut off American weapons, made in a CNN interview, was “a senior moment.” And he revealed that even before that, he had privately reached out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fact-check reports that weapons were being delayed to send a political message, contrary to what Biden administration officials had told him.

USC’s faculty senate censures President Carol Folt and provost over commencement

The body that represents USC’s faculty voted on Wednesday to censure the university’s president, Carol Folt, and provost, Andrew Guzman, citing both leaders’ mishandling of events around commencement.

In the USC Academic Senate’s vote, 21 members favored censuring the president and provost, seven opposed, and six abstained.

The vote followed a nearly three-hour meeting in which faculty members criticized decisions by Folt and Guzman, including the choice to rescind valedictorian Asna Tabassum‘s speaking slot at commencement; the cancellation of the main-stage commencement ceremony; and the posture of administrators toward pro-Palestinian protesters on campus, including the arrest by Los Angeles police of 93 protesters, most of whom were students.

The resolution voted on by faculty cited “widespread dissatisfaction and concern among the faculty about administrative actions and decisions” by Folt and Guzman.

Georgia Stae Rep. Mesha Mainor made headlines when she announced last week that she was leaving the Democratic Party — and in the days since, she has received a virtual tidal wave of hate mail, much of it overtly racist and profane.

Mainor shared some of the emails she’d received — riddled with nasty language and racist epithets — in a series of screenshots on Twitter.

Editing a massive Tajwar film analysis piece ...

I'm wrapping up a vacation in Nashville but have started editing and putting together a massive film analysis piece Tajwar completed on one of the 2024 newcomers that I know you're all gonna enjoy.

It's a huge piece, though, so it's taken longer than planned on my end. We've made good progress today, though, and I aim to have it for you tomorrow or Thursday at the latest. And then he has another such piece coming on the heels of this one.

But I appreciate you bearing with me while I sneak in my only planned vacation of spring/summer.
