So it's kinda slow around here and I thought I'd drop this video from one year ago of Coach talking to a class of USC students. In it you will find everything you need to know about the man and the coach. I highly recommend it. Yes, I know it's 1 1/2 hours long. I created a timeline for those that are impatient.

Notes on a wild wild NCAA tournament.

Are your brackets busted? Not mine! I didn't do one after the NCAA snubbed USC. But I reveled in #16 UMBC ousting a #1 Virginia by 20 after being an underdog by 23. Las Vegas was off by thatmuch. But it wasn’t alone, 14 lower seeded teams won in the first 2 rounds (48 games). And close games: how about in games won by 4 or less (2 baskets) of the 52 total games was at 15 games at 4 points or less (29%).

The biggest comeback and biggest gulp was in the same game Nevada coming back from a 20 point late deficit and Cincinnati dropping that big lead.

Other oddities….Not a single top 4 team remains in the South bracket. The West lost their #1 team Xavier to Florida state. The East Lost #4 Wichita State to Marshall. The Midwest lost #4 Auburn to #5 Clemson and #3 Michigan State to #11 Syracuse. The wunderkind team is Loyola Chicago, a number 11 team who beat teams from the ACC and SEC and whose mascot is a Nun who compared this year's team to one she followed in the 1960's. She did have one complaint that some claimed she was 102 and she says she is only 98 years old.

The Syracuse factor and others: #11 Syracuse was a play-in and beat ASU late by 4. They then beat #6 TCU by 5 and then beat # 3 Michigan State by 2. Makes ASU loss look better. BTW the PAC12 was berated from its 3 losses in 3 games. So far with 3 teams the Atlantic 10 is also out after a 1-3 record. The overrated SEC has lost 7 of 9 teams them and is 8-7. The ACC has lost 4 of 8 teams and is 10-4. The Big 12 has 3 lost from 7 teams for an 8-3 record. The Big 10 lost 2 of their 4 teams and is doing well with a 6-2 record. The Big 12 with a 7 teams has 4 remaining and a 8-3 record. The overrated Big East has 1 team left (Villanova) of their 6 teams and a 5-5 record. The best news is that Creighton was one and done. The head of the selection committee was from Creighton.

Why the turmoil? (1) As I stated previously there are no real dominant teams (2) plus poor vetting of seeds not being based on body of work but on selected top games which in turn was based on selection of who these teams are. Elitism squared. And double jeopardy IMO. (3) . One and dones are still Freshman and building a team around them is chancy. Give me a veteran team with a few standouts added and the run is longer IMO.

listening to the podcast I think you guys were too harsh on enfield and the team.

ya they only beat 2 tournament teams and that's fair (even if they lost total heartbreakers to UCLA, Stanford, Arizona state, Oklahoma, etc and might have won 28 games) however...
1. the squad still has shown progression every year. Finishing 7th, t-5th and now 2nd in the pac 12 in three years.
2. only the second time in school history with 20 wins seasons three straight years
3. we're not getting sh*t on by ucla every game anymore and enfield is going on the road and getting w's now.
4. recruiting is fantastic and the cupboard seems full next season too with the new class coming in
5. mention we couldn't get that lottery pick. fair too but bagley at least considered us and were pulling in nba caliber players again and former five stars are looking at sc (thorton and aaron)

the program is quickly becoming relevant and consistent. something we've never really been except under Floyd. Floyd era days were the strongest teams agreed.. but at least we're truly competitive now

USC game in NIT this Monday

I just got back from Phoenix and got some tix for Mondays game.

Center seats , 7 rows off the court for $22 a piece. The Tix on tier 1 are starting to disappear so there should be more attendance to support the team.

These guys went through hell this last week-good players including seniors McLaughlin and Stewart.

Have to be there.

OT - Black Panther

Saw this movie with my oldest and was really surprised. I thought it was very entertaining, had some great performances, and while I am sure some will hate the SJW agenda I think this film avoids being overdone in that regard.

Why has Marvel been so much more adept at making good films than LucasFilm has been? Don't get me wrong, Marvel had some stinkers, but between Iron Man(s), Captain Americas, Guardians of the Galaxy... they have been far more on.
